Since spotting Bermuda shorts on the Spring 2013 runways of DKNY and Rag and Bone, I’ve been looking forward to taking this new hemline out for a spin once the weather warms up. This tailored version is a great alternative to the same old high-waisted denim short shorts we’re so used to. I was happy to see this silhouette popping up again on the Fall 2013 runways at NYFW.
If you follow Fringueuse on Pinterest, then you know that overalls hold a special place in my heart. They have since I was in middle school. I couldn’t be more thrilled that for Spring’13, designers are reproducing the look for us grown ups in a myriad of fabrics (velvet, silk, leather and denim, of course) and styles.
Earrings have never been in or out, but they certainly haven’t been as hot a style topic as they are this season – thanks to designers dreaming up cool new ways to re-invent the wheel. The resurrection of eye-catching earlobe ornaments first kicked off recently with dangling ladylike earrings making a big splash from the runways to the streets.
The skirt or dress over pants look has been gaining momentum since the Fall’12 shows featured the questionable pairing. We’ve seen this trend before, but the look never really ever catches on for most of us off-the-runway. While designers like Joseph and Prada envisioned women wearing skirts over pants this fall, this trend continued to pop-up on the recent collections for next spring.
Animal motif sweaters aren’t just for kids anymore. Horses, tigers and owls are emblazoning adult-size sweaters this fall. From the runways to the streets, these kitschy sweaters are having a moment dominating the style landscape.
They’re cute and silly, and juxtaposed with edgier or tailored pieces ( like pencil skirts, leather shorts or skinny trousers) animal graphic crewnecks lend the right amount of youthful whimsy to any look.
If you’ve recently spent anytime on street-style blogs, chances are you’ve noticed that baseball caps are popping up on style-setters’ heads from NY to Paris, and everywhere in between. The baseball cap is the new sought-after headgear in fashion circles. The off-duty hat has been getting the high-fashion treatment since designers like Kenzo and Karen Walker featured it in their Spring 2012 collections.
Áslaug Magnúsdóttir, co-founder and CEO of Moda Operandi, the first and only luxury shopping site that allows you to purchase looks straight-off the runway only days after the shows, took some time out from her current hectic fashion week schedule to share her thoughts on the Spring 2013 collections, the stand-out trends and her personal shopping list for next spring. |
