Before moving into my new place I had grandiose visions of how I would decorate my home office. My office space, where I spend most of my time during the day and evening, for that matter, should be comfortable and stylish. It should reflect my personal taste and not be too office-y but still be highly functional.
82-year-old Malian photographer Adama Kouyaté may not be as instantly recognizable as fellow iconic Malian photographer Seydou Keïta, but his captivating black and white portraitures have nonetheless been instrumental in shaping the spirit and aesthetics of West African photography from the 1950s to the 1970s. At that time most people did not own personal cameras, so they often visited his modest store-front photo studio to capture important moments in their lives.
Zara holds a special place in our hearts when it comes to peddling chic budget-friendly trends. It’s the one chain that always succeeds in replicating, while adding their own twist, the latest looks from high-end designers like Celine, Stella McCartney and Alexander Wang. Now the Spanish retailer wants to help you outfit your entire home (or apartment) in style with the US launch of their affordable home collection at zarahome.com.
The end of summer is officially weeks away and it’s only right we go out with a bang or better yet go out throwing a fabulous dinner party to make the most of the last days of summer with friends and family. Hosting a memorable fête doesn’t have to be stressful or expensive. Kelly Abraham of Pollen Nation Events, the premier event design and breath-taking floral arrangement company based in Harlem that has a laundry list of five-star clients that include Gwyneth Paltrow, Beyonce (they were in charge of styling the flowers at her wedding), Anna Wintour, Madonna and President Obama, has been responsible for setting the ambiance for some exclusive extravagant events.
I’ve always loved an intense blue, but in 2009 during a trip to Marrakech for the first time with my husband, who had lived in Morocco years ago, I discovered the shade of blue that I had no clue I was searching for but am so happy I found. This beautiful blue is paired with bright yellows and greens in the local architecture of the city.
Known to his fans as dapperlou.com, 24-year-old Haitian-American style blogger Ludget Delcy relishes the idea of throwing people off with his personal style. It started back when he was a high school sophomore in Brooklyn, New York. Amidst a sea of velour sweat suits and Air force Ones, there was Delcy (pictured here), wearing crisp white pants, a blue shirt, white tie, and a black blazer.
Even though Georgia native Audrey Estilette had heard about the counterfeit designer handbags sold in New York’s Chinatown, on her recent trip to the city, the fourteen year-old was more interested in exploring the authentic side of the neighborhood—or so she thought. Standing on Canal Street, surrounded by a swarm of vendors vying for her attention with whispers of Louis Vuitton and Chanel, it quickly became obvious to Estilette that sightseeing might have to take a back seat to bargain shopping. |
