Lia Cinquegrano launched her distinctively printed line of handbags,Thomas IV, to rave reviews back in Spring of 2011. The line’s eye-catching textural mash-up and functional styles were a much needed respite from the sea of tough girl accessories dripping in studs on the market then. Cool girl boutiques Barney’s Co-op, Jumelle, Bird and Steven Alan all placed orders and Cinquegrano’s bags were flying off the shelves.
Last winter was all about fisherman cable knit sweaters. This up-coming season the modest sweatshirt will have its turn in the spotlight as the new throw-on-with-everything top. Although the grey sweatshirt may not be a completely foreign idea in our closets, it has been the perfect piece to temper an otherwise dressy ensemble for some time now; the sporty silhouette is being re-imagined in a slew of experimental prints, colors and textures by designers like Balenciaga and Alexander Wang.
As a stylist and Fashion Editor at Vogue Hommes International in Paris, Azza Yousif knows a thing or two about creating the ultimate wardrobe. Staple pieces are the bedrock of her sharp personal style. Yousif curates her closet with tried-and-true basics such as tailored blazers, pencil skirts, roomy trousers, trench coats and suits that every woman needs.
While fall, our favorite season, may be months away, we at Fringueuse, despite the sweltering heat in NYC at the moment, have already begun daydreaming about the rich autumn hued trousers, oversized stripped knits, printed sweatshirts, peplum hemmed wool skirts and white turtle necks from Ostwald Helgason’s Antarctic naval inspired Fall 2012 show. Design duo Susanne Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason are the brilliant minds behind this London-based line which launched in 2008.
Ever since I saw this shot of fashion consultant Miroslava Duma in a tailored pair of kick-ass overalls at Ulyana Sergeenko’s first couture fashion show in Paris earlier this summer, I’ve been totally obsessed with finding the perfect pair of overalls. While the petite street style star didn’t disappoint at the shows with an array of drool-worthy looks, this particular ensemble really grabbed me.
“You can love fashion and clothes but that’s not necessarily always the path that you were meant to be on,” explains 30-year-old Ayeisha Mesinger, the designer behind the perfect-with-everything bag line Morgan Parish. Following years as a clothing designer working at labels such as Band of Outsiders, where she focused on menswear, Mesinger discovered her calling while searching for the perfect leather tote to suit her yearning for a bag that was functional, durable and, of course, cool.
If there’s one fashion era that is dear to our hearts, it’s definitely the ’70s, so when swimwear designer Lisa Marie Fernandez started popping up on our radar a couple years ago, we instantly fell hard for her stellar ’70s-inspired sense of style (not to mention her sporty-chic neoprene swimsuits). The former stylist’s penchant for belted high-waists, below-the-knee pencil, A-line and inverted pleat skirts, wide-leg trousers, slim-fitting turtlenecks, bodysuits, trench coats and knee-high boots make for the perfect urban style equation.
Modern femininity best describes Russian designer Alexander Terekhov’s superb Fall 2012 collection. Inspired by Grace Kelly, Terekhov’s pieces are romantic and pretty without coming across saccharine or precious. These clothes weren’t made to merely be admired, these are elegant and beautifully cut garments designed to be lived in. Against the backdrop of urban Paris streets, hanging out in the Republique neighborhood and across from one of our favorite places to get lunch (or brunch here in the States) on Sundays, Chez Prune, the leaf-printed maxi dresses, pencil skirts and silk blouses cut in discreet lines come to life in this gorgeous lookbook. |
