Fall 2011 ushered in the classic ankle-strap shoe with designers like Alexander Wang and Phillip Lim focusing their attention on dressing up our ankles in barely there straps wrapped seductively around the ankles. Wang went one step further calling attention to the ankles with the futuristic Fabiana complete with a superhero cape at the back of the strap. If there’s anything we can rely on in fashion is the warp speed in which trends rotate, but as we move into Fall 2012 this style continues to have a strong pulse. Ankle straps, thin or thick, on pointy pumps or sandals are coquettish and ladylike. They’re the classic go-with-everything shoe silhouette. This style is great for elongating the legs when worn with skirts or short dresses, but make sure the straps fit just right to avoid the tight ankle look. We ‘re especially loving this shoe style paired with skinny or roomy cropped bottoms revealing the ankle strap. For when the weather gets cooler, team them with patterned socks for a cheeky touch.
