Married designers and architects Robin Stendefer and Stephen Alesch of Roman & Williams are the creative geniuses behind some of New York’s most stunning interiors. The Standard Hotel’s Boom Boom Room,The Standard Grill, The Dutch and the Ace Hotel are some of the venues where they’ve worked their magic. Blending a vintage and tactile historic flair with a contemporary edge is what these sought-after designers do best. I love how they use natural materials, varied objects and references in their work but still maintain a cohesive glamorous aesthetic. It’s no surprise that the couple met while they both were working as production designers and art directors in Hollywood. Their work always tell an authentic story and reflects the inhabitant’s life instead of focusing on trends. They’ve also worked on several residential projects for clients that include Ben Stiller and Gwyneth Paltrow. I recently purchased an amazing book, Roman And Williams Buildings and Interiors: Things We Made, that chronicles 10 years of their high-profile work. We also get a peek inside their incredibly decorated West village loft and Montauk beach house. Their homes also serve as their design laboratories. I can’t put this book down. It’s full of beautiful inspirational images of warm spaces, furnishings, fixtures and detailed sketches that I love getting lost in. This is a great book for anyone with an interest or love for architecture and interior design.
