I love the unexpected mix of accessories here! She mixes contrasting extras, like a leather cap, mirrored sunglasses, statement posh necklace and brooch, neon orange bag and feminine heels to perfection. Her slouchy bordeaux coat is the ideal no-fuss backdrop for her eye catching accessories. This is a perfect example of how finishing touches can totally make an ensemble.
“Occupying the space where science and art intersect” is how Luke and Emma describe their minimalist jewelry line Shimell & Madden. The London-based duo have translated their fascination with geometric shapes and architectural aesthetics into a refreshingly clean collection that’s simultaneously edgy, simple and beautiful. Their latest metal-based collection, The Cuboid Collection, features a three-dimensional cube which the designers point out is a wearable symbol of dimension and proportion.
We’ve always thought the idea, and I’m stressing the word idea here, behind interchangeable bags, the QVC handbags that come with different covers to change the look and style of the bag, was essentially a good one. Who doesn’t want two bags for the price of one? Unfortunately when it comes to execution and style, it’s clear interchangeable and cool are two words destined to never meet in the world of handbags.
Michael Kors embraced a retro state of mind for Pre-Fall 2013 that did not disappoint. The 1950s inspired collection featured a bevy of high-waist tweed and lace pencil skirts, angora sweaters, cropped cigarette pants and strapless sheaths to feed the sartorial needs of any wannabe Hitchcock leading lady. Although extras like the cat eye glasses, fur stoles and elbow-length gloves may be obvious references to that era, Kors stayed just shy of being too literal by working in some modern edge.
Maje never fails when it comes to designing no-fuss crave-worthy classic basics for round-the-clock cool. The French label has been on our list of faves for some time now and this season’s lookbook is a reminder of how much we can’t get enough of their chic uniform of essential wool skirts, leather and knits.
Take a cue from Lanvin’s Spring 2013 collection and set your look apart this festive party season by switching up your quintessential LBD for a sharp tuxedo. This reconstructed take on cocktail dressing, made famous in 1966 by YSL with its iconic Le Smoking, is an effortless way to maximize your dress code. While a black jacket, black pant and a white shirt have long been the conventional color theme for tuxes, deviate from the classic recipe for a noteworthy spin on the classic.
Earrings have never been in or out, but they certainly haven’t been as hot a style topic as they are this season – thanks to designers dreaming up cool new ways to re-invent the wheel. The resurrection of eye-catching earlobe ornaments first kicked off recently with dangling ladylike earrings making a big splash from the runways to the streets.
Not sure what the stats are for the number of sweaters given as gifts on Christmas, but I’m confident the number is high, very high. I’m also pretty sure that the majority of fugly Christmas sweaters in the U.S. always make its way to me in beautifully wrapped boxes that always succeed in hiding the horror that is neatly folded inside. |
