We haven’t come to the end of NYFW Spring ’13 just yet, but it’s safe to say there are some styles that are finding themselves on more than one runway. Here’s a round-up of the styles that have made repeated appearances and are bound to be big trends next spring.
CUT-OUTS
Skin is in for next spring. Slashed, perforated and see-through fabrics are having a moment on the runways at NYFW. Designers like Cushnie et Ochs, Tibi, Alexander Wang and Narciso Rodriguez are all playing a game of peek-a-boo with bold results.

LEATHER
It isn’t the first thing that comes to mind for spring but it has been popping up on several runways this NYFW. For spring Charlotte Ronson, Derek Lam, DKNY, Tracy Reese and Tibi all introduced their ideas for transitioning skins into spring.

STRIPES
Marc Jacobs creates trends with every collection he introduces, and his on-the-pulse Midas touch dictates stripes as the new print for next spring. One look at MJ’s graphic Spring ’13 collection, it’s easy to predict that the long, lean stripes, black and white, that dominated his ’60s mod show will become one of the season’s defining trends. Jacobs may be the leader of the stripes pack, but he wasn’t the only designer showing them off. J.Crew, Jenny Kayne, Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger played with stripes of all kinds; which further certified this eye-popping style as a trend. Expect to see these lines replicated in retail shops like H&M and Zara.

CROP TOP
There’s been lots of talk about the return of the ‘90s at NYFW since 3.1 Phillip Lim’s ode to polished grunge came down the runway. ‘90s nostalgia continues on with the return of the crop top. Designers have shrunken the top, again, to expose the midriff but this time the waistband of skirts and pants have been raised in most cases – save for Marc Jacobs who paired it with a dangerously low-rise skirt. So many designers opted to crop their tops, sweaters and flirty bustiers. The look was spotted at Peter Som, Jill Stuart, Philosophy, Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Jason Wu, DKNY, Catherine Malandrino and Richard Chai.
