The buzz has been building around New York designer Tanya Taylor since she debuted her quirky-cool line last New York Fashion Week. The former Elizabeth & James designer’s vintage-inspired silhouettes, mod prints and flouncy dresses were a hit. On September 5th, Taylor revealed her new collection at the Museum of Modern Art for this year’s NYFW. Expanding on her retro roots, Taylor looked to the beachy resort wares worn in Barbados in the 1960s for inspiration this time around. The Tanya Taylor girl loves to travel, but she’s not a flashy jet-setter. The theme here was pared-back cool which Taylor translated into sweet cut-out swingy frocks, roomy jumpsuits, cropped tops and trousers, knit varsity jackets, wide-leg trousers and boxy blazers all in a palette of tangerine, white, black and yellow. Although these separates pack some retro charm, they never look dated but rather classic. This Spring 2013 collection further certifies Taylor as a rising star with a shrewd eye for flattering designs.
